KCLS provides a generalist legal service that engages in law reform, a multi-disciplinary approach to social work and client advocacy, and financial counselling services that provide practical tools for building financial resilience.

Our Legal Services

KCLS provides advice, referral, legal information and casework assistance, representation and community legal education.

These services cover tenancy, Centrelink, family violence, discrimination and complaints, consumer and credit law, and more.

Our East Kimberley office is currently offering assistance with accessing the National Redress Scheme, established in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

This scheme will run until 30 June 2027.  Applicants wanting to apply to the Scheme are encouraged to speak with our Service before this time.

Our social work & Client Advocacy Services

We deliver a holistic and culturally appropriate service to clients, working closely with our legal and financial counselling teams. We provide long and short-term case management, focusing on support in the areas of family and domestic violence, elder abuse, and housing.

Having a multi-disciplinary approach, we provide advocacy for our clients and work with other community organisations and legal services to precipitate law reform and correct systemic injustices that impact our clients.

our financial counselling Services

We provide advice, advocacy and support to people in financial difficulty, including unpaid bills, debts, fines and superannuation issues.

The team aims to build financial resilience by providing practical information, money management skills and coaching to help clients make better financial decisions

Our Community Education Services

We develop community education resources and for our team to deliver them across the Kimberley. The resources are developed in conjunction with extensive stakeholder engagement.

Our Systemic Change Advocacy

As part of its practice KCLS tackles systemic problems affecting our clients. We have a dedicated role, Systemic Change Advocate, working towards change by amplifying local voices and identifying policies which disadvantage our clients and the wider community.

Our current priority area is advocating for improvements to public housing in the Kimberley.
